The Extraordinary Tale of Jewel and

the Overstone

Arms Robotic Cat Family

A Very Special April Fools’ Story — in support of The National Brain Appeal

As many of you know, our chosen charity this year is The National Brain Appeal, supporting vital work into rare dementia. To help raise awareness, we introduced a rather special new resident to The Overstone Arms — a therapy cat. Not a real one, of course… but a robotic cat named Jewel, chosen through a fun sweepstake that also raised money, with one lucky winner walking away with £100.

Jewel lives full‑time at the pub and is even available for short fostering sessions, giving families the chance to see whether a therapy cat could help a loved one. She quickly became part of the furniture — until recently, when she began taking an unexpected “rest”.

Well, here’s why…

A Visitor, Some Company… and a Mystery Begins

A few weeks ago (about 17 weeks in robot‑cat years), Jewel had a visiting robotic friend stay at the pub. The pair seemed delighted with one another’s company — perhaps a little too delighted, as we later discovered.

Before long, our sweet, innocent Jewel began putting on… weight. Quite a lot of it, as it turned out.

Naturally, we became concerned. So we did what any responsible pet owner would do — even with a robotic pet.
We booked her in for a CAT scan.

Yes, we really did.

The Hospital Visit

Upon arrival, we were gently informed that just because she is a cat doesn’t mean she needs an actual CAT scan. Instead, she was whisked away for an ultrasound at the Robotic Cat Hospital on Follers Road in London.
On the 30th of February 2026, no less.

That date should perhaps have raised a red flag…

But nothing prepared us for what the screen revealed.

The Ultrasound Results

There they were.

A whole litter of robotic kittens.

Not one. Not two. But several tiny mechanical moggies all lined up like a feline factory production run.

And so the waiting began.

An April Fools’ Morning Surprise

After a lively quiz night raising money for The National Brain Appeal, we finally got some sleep.

The quiz winners couldn’t unlock the charity box with seven keys, but one lucky player on Spin the Wheel used six keys and won £140.88, kindly donating part of their winnings back into the charity pot.
The same customer tried Play Your Cards Right, but didn’t quite make it across the board — meaning the jackpot rolls over to next week:

  • £74.50 for Play Your Cards Right
  • 20 keys now in the box
  • £140.88 still waiting inside

Then came the morning…

On 1st April, of all days, we walked into the pub and discovered the new arrivals:

The kittens had arrived.
And there were lots of them.

But upon closer inspection of the family photos, it became clear that one of the kittens may… possibly… have had a different father.
How do we begin to explain that?
We have absolutely no idea.

One thing is certain though:

The Overstone Arms now proudly has the most chaotic robotic cat family in the whole country — and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
